Before the updated XC90 made its South African debut in October 2025 (see pricing and specs here), Volvo UK announced the introduction of a new Black Edition package for its flagship XC model. (Local introduction for this package remains unconfirmed, though.)
While the Gothenburg-based brand’s Black Edition models are typically finished in Onyx Black, the XC90 Black Edition is also available in three other colourways: Crystal White, Denim Blue and Vapour Grey. Black Edition models receive high-gloss black finishes for the ‘iron’ mark, the front grille, rear badges, and alloy wheels. The stealth-like theme continues to the cabin. Customers have the option of two all-black interior trims – both featuring charcoal headliners and checkered aluminium elements. The charcoal-coloured seats can be had in two distinct materials.
The XC90 is the fifth Volvo model offered with a Black Edition package. The XC60, EX40, EC40 and the XC40 are also available in this guise.

Volvo has handed the XC90 the stealth treatment with the introduction of the Black Edition.

The XC90 is locally available in B5 and T8 flavours – the former employing a 183 kW/350 N.m mild-hybrid 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbopetrol and the latter a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain comprising a 2.0-litre turbo- and supercharged petrol engine and an electric motor, fed by a 19 kWh battery. The PHEV arrangement produces a combined system output of 340 kW and 709 N.m of torque.
