The XC90 T8 derivatives’ plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain comprises a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo- and supercharged petrol engine, producing 233 kW and 400 N.m, and a 107 kW/309 N.m electric motor for a combined system output of 340 kW and 709 N.m. Volvo claims an electric-only range of up to 77 km when the 19 kWh battery is fully charged, and a combined fuel consumption of 1.8 L/100 km. The all-paw PHEV accelerates to the three-figure marker from a standstill in a claimed 5.3 seconds, before topping out at 180 km/h.
As standard, all models ship with 11.2-inch touchscreen infotainment, replete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screen mirroring. Upgrades have also been made to comfort features, while new materials have been introduced. A panoramic sunroof and air suspension are standard fitment across the range.

The updated Volvo XC90 has arrived in South Africa, with the local arm of the Swedish automaker announcing pricing for the facelifted model range. See pricing below.

In July 2025, Volvo South Africa announced when the facelifted XC90 will arrive in our market. Now, the updated version of the automaker’s flagship XC SUV has made landfall on our shores.

Comprising a quartet of models, the updated XC90 lineup is priced from R1 555 500 for the B5 mild-hybrid variant in Plus Dark guise to R1 936 500 for the T8 plug-in hybrid Ultra Dark. Bookended by the former and latter are the B5 Ultra Dark (R1 657 500) and T8 Plus Bright (R1 834 500) derivatives. This signifies a price increase of 1.5% over the pre-facelifted models. Included in the asking price are a five-year/1000 000 km maintenance plan and a warranty spanning the same duration and distance.
